OBJ yet to prove he can play vs. Lions
The watch continues. On the final Giants’ injury report before Monday’s home opener against the Lions, Odell Beckham Jr. was listed as questionable with the sprained ankle that has sidelined him since the second week of the preseason.
The wide receiver was a limited participant in practice Thursday and Friday and was limited again for Saturday’s walkthrough.
“We’ll see how it goes,” coach Ben McAdoo said. “We’ll get in there, do a little bit of work this morning. [Sunday] we’ll go in and have our launch day, take a look at him and see how it goes.
“It’s a medical decision. We’re just seeing his level of confidence and where he is sticking his foot in the ground.”
Beckham also was listed as questionable for Week 1 against the Cowboys, tested the ankle before the game then was declared inactive. McAdoo said they’ll watch and listen to Beckham before making a final decision again. He declined to say if Beckham would play even if he wasn’t 100 percent.
“The biggest thing is we don’t want to put a player out there that’s going to do any harm to himself or injure himself any more than he is,” McAdoo said. “It’s a tough injury. He’s fighting through it, he’s doing everything he can to get back.”
➤ There were two new additions to the injury report Saturday — starting line- backer B.J. Goodson and backup guard D.J. Fluker were listed as questionable with shin injuries that arose late in Friday’s practice. Goodson’s injury got sore as practice wore on, so he was pulled out late.
➤ Right tackle Bobby Hart (ankle), who did not participate in Thursday’s practice and was limited in Friday’s practice, was not listed on the injury report. McAdoo said he was improving, but was non-committal when asked if he expected Hart to play.
“Bobby got through practice [Friday],” McAdoo said. “He did fine out there yesterday. We’ll take a look and see how he does tomorrow.”
➤ Cornerback Janoris Jenkins was listed as limited with an ankle and hand injury.
