Weiner Gets Roasted — Just What He Deserved
THE ISSUE: This week’s sentencing of former Rep. Anthony Weiner for sexting with a minor.
A combination of Anthony Weiner’s sexting addiction and his acerbic arrogance brought him down in a blaze of humiliation. (“Pol Faces Jail Like a Softie,” Sept. 26). He is a troubled and broken man.
The last lines in the movie “A Bronx Tale,” spoken by the character played by Lillo Brancato, who himself went to jail, speak to Weiner’s immense fall from grace: “The saddest thing in life is wasted talent, and the choices you make will shape your life forever.” Manny Martin Manhattan
Former Rep. Weiner got just what he deserved — 21 months in prison.
It’s too bad that the judge didn’t give him more jail time.
He is a sick pevert who obviously has no respect for himself or others by doing what he did.
He ruined his political and personal lives due to his insensitive and callous actions. John Amato Fresh Meadows
The pervert Weiner got off too easy with 21 months. It should have been more like 10 years’ hard time. He is a serial pervert who repeatedly sexted with a minor. Disgusting. He shouldn’t be anywhere near his son, and that is a given. Walter Murray Clearwater, Fla.
Weiner’s pathetic plea to the judge for leniency reminds me of what the homicidal malfunctioning computer “Hal” in the film “2001: A Space Odyssey” said to astronaut Dave Bowman as it was being deactivated: “I know I have made some very poor decisions recently, but I can give you my complete assurance that my work will be back to normal.” Bowman ignored Hal and “pulled the plug.”
Kudos to the judge for “deactivating” Anthony Weiner, even if it’s for only 21 months. Dennis Middlebrooks Brooklyn
Weiner, once an arrogant man who bullied people, now will be known for crying like a baby when sentenced.
Judging by his reaction, I’d have to say that right up to the last minute, he thought he wasn’t going to get jail time.
