McEwing a ‘Super’ manager candidate

- By MIKE PUMA

Add “Super Joe” to the Mets’ list of potential managerial candidates.

Joe McEwing, a popular player with the Mets in the early 2000s, is among the possibilities to replace Terry Collins in the dugout next season, according to an industry source. Collins is expected to be told as soon as Monday that his contract will not be renewed for next season.

As reported this week by The Post, early persons of interest by the organization for the managerial seat also include Robin Ventura, Alex Cora, Kevin Long, Chip Hale and Bob Geren.

The 44-year-old McEwing has spent the past six seasons as a coach with the White Sox. He was promoted to bench coach this season.

McEwing, a light-hitting utility player best known for his uncanny ability to handle Randy Johnson, remains close with David Wright. Wright has credited McEwing with nurturing him during his rookie season.

All six of the identified candidates for the expected opening have ties to the Mets — McEwing, Ventura and Cora played for the team and Long, Hale and Geren have coached in the organization.

➤ Jose Reyes went 2-for-5 with an RBI in a 7-1 win over the Braves in his possible last game at Citi Field with the Mets. The veteran infielder, who is unsigned beyond this season, was serenaded with “Jo-se, Jo-se, Jo-se” by the fans in the late innings.

“I would love to finish my career here with the New York Mets, but that is a decision I don’t have,” Reyes said. “To hear [the fans] cheer my name like that, it was an unbelievable feeling. I have the same feeling for them. I appreciate that from the fans, all the love that they show me.”

➤ Noah Syndergaard threw a bullpen session and remains on course to pitch this weekend in Philadelphia in a likely one-inning appearance.
