Dianne: Ban gun modifier

-

Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein introduced a bill on Wednesday to ban the rifle modifier that the Las Vegas killer used to increase his rate of fire to near that of an automatic weapon — and at least one GOP lawmaker is already backing the plan.

Feinstein’s legislation would prohibit the sale and possession of “bump stocks,” legal devices that modify a semiautomatic gun to fire like a full automatic. They were found in Stephen Paddock’s hotel suite.

“Mr. and Mrs. America, you have to stand up, you have to say enough is enough,” the California senator pleaded, noting that her daughter had planned to attend the tragic music festival.

Texas Republican Rep. Bill Flores told The Hill he will back a bump-stock ban.

And by the end of Wednesday, several high profile Senate Republicans — such as John Cornyn, Marco Rubio, Orin Hatch and Lindsey Graham — said they’d at least consider such a ban.

Bump stocks adjust the stock of a gun and manipulate the trigger mechanism so the recoil fires bullets in rapid succession.
