NHL: Golden Knights win franchise’s opener

James Neal scored twice in the third period, rallying the Golden Knights to a 2-1 victory in Dallas over the host Stars in the debut of the first major pro sports franchise to be based in Las Vegas. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 45 of 46 shots to help the Golden Knights become the first expansion to open with a victory since the Senators in 1992.

In Tampa, Fla., Steven Stamkos, in his return from a right knee injury, set up Vladislav Namestniko­v’s goahead goal and the Lightning beat the Panthers 5-3.
