GAME OF WORDS

Yanks should teach player English

- Dear John

Dear John: With all that is going on today, I know that this may seem trivelous [sic] of me, but wouldn’t you think that one of the most richest teams in all of baseball, the NY Yankees, would be able to afford a tutor to help Hispanic players speak just a few words of English?

It has one of the best hitting and throwing catchers in all of baseball, but he can’t catch a ball.

I am talking about Gary Sanchez, who ended the season with the most passed balls in the history of baseball. He should spend next year in Triple A and learn how to block a pitch and maybe how to speak a few words of English.

But with the money they pay him, he’ll just be another wonderlink [sic] who failed. D.M.

Dear D.M.:

As far as I’m concerned, Sanchez can speak Klingon and pick his nose on camera as long as he continues to hit homers.

He’s a moneymaker for the Yankees. So who in that organization is going to walk up to him and say, “Gary, please speak a language we all understand or you’re fired”? Nobody, that’s who. Triple A? Call the Hall of Fame. And while you are at it, book a spot for Aaron Judge, too — although I think he has to move closer to the plate or he will go into the record books for the greatest number of strikeouts.

I am concerned about Sanchez’s habit of allowing pitches to get past him. But nobody’s perfect.

Maybe all Yankees fans should learn a few words of Spanish so we can make Sanchez feel at home.

Dear John: My friends and I would like to know the cost to taxpayers to fly our president around in Air Force One with bodyguards, bulletproof SUVs, etc. It’s a hazardous duty, and I presume it is extra pay.

I’m afraid to guess. Taxpayers should know this cost. R.O.

Dear R.O.: The conservative organization Judicial Watch just got some information on this after going to court.

Judicial Watch said the total travel expenses for President Obama over eight years was $105.7 million. That’s $13.2 million a year.

So far President Trump has spent slightly over $4 million on travel. If he keeps up that pace, his travel costs will be about $8 million for the year.

Some details: A trip Michelle Obama took to Morocco cost $128,108 in hotels, $88,726 in car rentals, $1,476 for gasoline and $972 for cell phones. No word on the cost for security, but the Secret Service would have been paid even if she stayed at home.

Her trip to Liberia cost a total of $107,000; Spain, $166,000; a trip to a Hillary Clinton campaign event in November 2016 cost $271,000 (why didn’t the cam- paign pay for that?) and a trip to LA to appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” cost $127,000 — etc., etc., etc.

Now you know why everyone wants to be president. It beats using frequent flyer miles.
