Spartans maintain supremacy vs. Mich.

Brian Lewerke ran for a touchdown and threw for a score in the first half and Michigan State held on to beat No. 7 Michigan 14-10 in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The Wolverines had the ball with a chance to drive for a goahead touchdown, but a heave from the Spartans 37 as time expired hit the turf near the goal line.

The Spartans (4-1, 2-0 Big Ten) have beaten Michigan eight times in a 10-year stretch for the first time in a series that dates to 1898. Michigan (4-1, 1-1) could not overcome many mistakes, including five turnovers and several costly penalties.

Alabama 27, Texas A&M 19

In College Station, Texas, Damien Harris ran for 124 yards and a touchdown, and Jalen Hurts had a touchdown pass and ran for another score to help No. 1 Alabama (6-0, 3-0 SEC) remain undefeated.

The Aggies (4-2, 2-1) made the game interestin­g but were too inexperien­ced to topple a team as talented as Alabama.

Clemson 28, Wake Forest 14

In Clemson, S.C., quarterbac­k Kelly Bryant threw for 200 yards and a touchdown before leaving with a sprained ankle and the second-ranked Tigers (6-0, 4-0 ACC) defeated Wake Forest (4-2, 1-2) to move to 6-0 for a third straight season.

Penn St. 31, Northweste­rn 17

In Evanston, Ill., Trace McSorley threw for 245 yards and a touchdown, Saquon Barkley ran for two scores in the second half, and No. 4 Penn State (6-0, 3-0 Big Ten) beat Northweste­rn (2-3, 0-2). McSorley also completed 15 straight passes to break Kerry Collins’ program record.

Ohio St. 62, Maryland 14

In Columbus, Ohio, J.T. Barrett threw for three touchdowns and ran for another, and Ohio State (5-1, 3-0 Big Ten) had its most dominant defensive effort in nearly 60 years, holding Maryland (3-2, 1-1) to 66 total yards in the rout.

Miami 24, Florida St. 20

In Tallahasse­e, Fla., Malik Rosier threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Darrell Langham with 6 seconds remaining and No. 13 Miami (4-0, 2-0 ACC) beat Florida State (1-3, 1-2) to end a sevengame losing streak in the series.

USC 38, Oregon St. 10

In Los Angeles, Sam Darnold threw for 316 yards and three touchdowns and No. 14 Southern California (5-1, 3-1 Pac-12) bounced back from its first loss of the season to defeat Oregon State (1-5, 0-3).

Virginia Tech 23, Boston College 10

In Boston, Josh Jackson threw for 322 yards and a touchdown and No. 16 Virginia Tech (5-1, 1-1 ACC) never trailed against Boston College (2-4, 0-2).

LSU 17, Florida 16

Danny Etling threw a short touchdown pass in the second half and LSU (4-2, 1-1) rebounded from a stunning home loss with a 17-16 victory at No. 21 Florida (3-2, 3-1) in Gainesvill­e, Fla.

Notre Dame 33, N. Carolina 10

In Chapel Hill, N.C., Josh Adams ran for 118 yards, including a 73yard touchdown, Deon McIntosh ran for two scores and No. 21 Notre Dame (5-1), playing without starting quarterbac­k Brandon Wimbush (foot), beat North Carolina (1-5).

Columbia 41, Marist 17

In Poughkeeps­ie, Anders Hill threw for 350 yards and three touchdowns and ran for two more scores, and Columbia (4-0) rolled over Marist (3-2) for its best start since the 1996 Lions opened 6-0.

Syracuse 27, Pitt 24

In Syracuse, Eric Dungey threw for 365 yards as the Orange (3-3, 1-1 ACC) beat the Panthers (2-4, 0-2) for the first time in five years.

Lafayette 14, Fordham 10

In Easton, Pa., Sean O’Malley threw two touchdown passes to Rocco Palumbo in the fourth quarter to rally Lafayette (2-4, 2-0 Patriot League) past Fordham (1-5, 0-1), which got a TD pass from Kevin Anderson.
