Why Behavin’ Like Palin Won’t Hurt Teflon Trump
To equate President Trump to Sarah Palin is to forget that she energized a small minority of Tea Party types, whereas our president has created a massive populist antiestablishment revolution (“He’s Palin in comparison,” Peggy Noonan, PostScript, Oct. 22).
The old guard fails (or refuses) to acknowledge this difference. It’s a relic of a gutless party that ran poorly and governed more poorly.
If it weren’t for Trump, Noonan’s Republicans would have solidified their place in our history as the loyal, but permanent, opposition. Rich Klitzberg Boca Raton, Fla.
In comparing Palin and Trump’s styles of language and precepts, Noonan overlooks one vital factor: Palin was kept on a very short leash by Sen. John McCain and his advisers. McCain refused to push back against Barack Obama and his minions. The result was obvious: He lost, and Palin was blamed and made to look foolish.
The big difference is that all Trump does is push back. It’s uncomfortable for elitists to tol- erate his boorish antics.
I’ll take Palin and Trump’s behavior anytime. They reflect the values of “deplorables.”
I’d like politics to be different, more dignified and measured. But given the choices we were offered, I’ll stick with our president. Emanuel Gross Manhattan
Trump is much more powerful than Palin ever was. The one factor they share is that Palin’s party stabbed her in the back, as some Republicans have done to Trump.
Noonan blames Trump for the party’s failures, but the shortcomings this year have been the fault of a few in his party who bat for the other side.
America’s heart and soul are rebelling against the past presidencies (George W. Bush and Obama) that left America in the terrible condition Trump is now confronting. Ronald Paul Conte Orleans, Mass.
Noonan’s comparison of Trump and Palin shows that she doesn’t understand Trump supporters.
No president before Trump was criticized daily for his every word and every move.
The more negative coverage we read, the more we support Trump. We don’t care about polls and liberal pundits. We care about America, period.
This president loves our country and wants to get back to our foundation of patriotism and law. We know how hard Trump will have to fight, but fight he will. Palin was dust in the wind. Donna Orosz New Hyde Park
