REESE OF WORK
Here are six questions for Giants general manager Jerry Reese (inset) — one for every Giants loss in this sad season — as he speaks to the media for one of the few times this season: 1 What is your level of accountability for assembling a roster that is 1-6 at the bye week and already out of contention for the playoffs? 2 You stood pat and expressed your belief in two 23-yearold offensive tackles, Ereck Flowers and Bobby Hart. As it turns out, that belief was misguided. Do you admit to making an egregious error in assessing your offensive line? 3 Rather than sign a proven running back, you pinned improvement in the running game on signing tight end Rhett Ellison and the development of Paul Perkins. Ellison has not made an impact, Perkins never got untracked and the rushing attack is 27th in the NFL. Do you regret not bringing in a veteran such as LeGarrette Blount, Jamaal Charles or Latavius Murray? 4 Tight end Evan Engram is turning out to be a fine player, worthy of his first-round draft status. Looking back, based on need, do you regret not taking Ryan Ramczyk (Saints) or Cam Robinson (Jaguars), offensive tackles starting as rookies and already playing at a higher level than Flowers? Any regrets about not making a run at 35-year old Andrew Whitworth, who has started every game this season for the Rams? 5 You said at the end of last season Eli Manning is on the “back nine’’ of his career. Manning is at the helm of an offense averaging 16 points a game. Do you want to see Davis Webb play some in the second half of the season? 6 It looks as if you are headed for your highest draft pick in 14 years, when the No. 4 pick in 2004 was used to take Philip Rivers in the trade for Manning. Are you instructing your scouts to put extra emphasis on the top quarterbacks in this year’s college class?
