Wine-ing about Trump
PRESIDENT Trump is exposed as a vengeful wine spiller in editor
Tina Brown’s gossipy new book, “The Vanity Fair Diaries.”
The entry for Dec. 10, 1991, tells how Trump poured a glass of wine down the back of journalist Marie Brenner at an NYC Parks black-tie gala at Tavern on the Green.
“She was sitting demurely in her black dinner suit at the Parks Commissioner Betsy Got
baum’s table when she felt something cold and wet running down her back.”
Brenner had written an unflattering piece about Trump in Vanity Fair a year earlier.
“Other guests at the table started pointing and yelping, ‘Oh my God! Look what he just did!’ The ‘he’ in question was Donald Trump! She saw his familiar Elvis coif making off across the Crystal Room.”
Brown calls Trump a “sneaky, petulant infant,” and wrote, “What a coward! He couldn’t even confront her to her face!”
Trump pulled a similar stunt on Leona Helmsley, he confessed in 2003. Both were at a party at least 10 years earlier, and Helmsley — his nemesis at the time — had her coat, which had a hood, on the back of a chair. “I took an entire bottle of red wine and poured it into the hood,” Trump once told a reporter, who wondered if he had a choice of red or white. “Yes. White’s not nearly as effective,’’ Trump said.
