Meek Mill’s legal team bids to remove judge

-

FOLLOWING Page Six’s report that the FBI is probing the judge who sentenced Meek Mill to up to four years in jail for a probation violation, lawyers for the rapper have started a campaign to remove Judge Genece E. Brinkley from the case. We revealed Tuesday that the feds have taken an interest in Meek’s case after Brinkley made a series of bizarre requests, including that he drop his current management and sign with Charlie Mack. On Tuesday, his lawyers filed a motion asking for Brinkley to disqualify herself from Meek’s case so another judge could reconsider his alleged probation violation. The new motion asserts that Brinkley had “assumed a non-judicial, essentially prosecutorial role in the re- vocation process” and imposed a heavy sentence even though Meek’s probation officer and prosecutor had not asked for jail time. It continues that Brinkley had “repeatedly offered inappropriate personal and professional advice to the defendant, who had become a successful professional entertainer during the pendency of this case.” Meek — real name Robert Williams — is currently at the Pennsylvania State Correctional Institution. His lawyers plan to file an appeal. His attorney Joe Tacopina told Page Six, “It’s the most thorough and quite frankly alarming recusal notice against a judge I’ve ever seen in my life.” Another of Meek’s attorneys, Brian J. McMonagle, called the sentencing “a farce.”
