‘Supergirl’ actor sole Chipotle complainer
“Supergirl” actor Jeremy Jordan is special — so much so that he appears to be the only person in Houston who has reported being ill after eating at a local Chipotle Mexican Grill last week.
The actor’s account of being hospitalized on Friday and blaming his illness on a recent Chipotle meal went viral, sending shares of the burrito joint down by as much as 6 percent on Monday.
The 32-year-old actor, who was in Houston to perform in a concert, posted a photo on social media of himself in a hospital with an IV in his arm and wrote on his Instagram account that he “almost died” from his illness.
The problem, say experts, is that it’s unlikely that Chipotle was to blame.
For one thing, the local health department has not received a single recent complaint from the public about getting sick at Chipotle, an agency spokesman said on Tuesday.
“I’ve sued Chipotle, but you have to have the right medical, scientific and legal facts to justify making a claim like that,” said Bill Marler, a food safety lawyer. “Candidly, it’s irresponsible, and there’s nothing I’ve seen to point a finger at Chipotle.” There’s no evidence that other people were sick at the same time from the same restaurant, Marler added.
Chipotle, for its part, said that it reached out to Jordan to confirm details about where and when he ate at Chipotle and that the details “strongly suggests that our restaurant was not the cause.”
Jordan’s manager said on Tuesday that the actor had no further comment on the matter.
