Roster keeps shifting

- By PAUL SCHWARTZ

This is what happens when seasons go awry. Players come, players go and the bottom of the roster is in a constant state of flux. The Giants on Tuesday moved three players in and three players out, prompted by injury, need and performance. Two veterans with extensive experience were signed: LB Akeem Ayers and guard John Greco. Kalif Raymond, a receiver and kick return specialist, was signed off the practice squad. To make room, defensive end Devin Taylor — signed last week — was waived, along with receiver Ed Egan, and linebacker Keenan Robinson was placed on injured reserve with a quad issue. Ayers is the third linebacker signed in the last two weeks by the Giants (Kelvin Sheppard and Deontae Skinner were the others). Sheppard made his season debut Sunday against the 49ers, starting at middle linebacker, and left the game with a groin injury. Ayers, 28, has played in 91 regular-season games (51 starts) for the Titans, Patriots, Rams and Colts.

Greco, 32, started 70 of the 111 NFL games he’s played for the Rams and Browns.

Raymond, 23, played four games for the Broncos in 2016 and two games for the Jets this season. It was a rough go of it for Raymond with the Jets, as he muffed three punts in two games, including a costly fumble in Week 2 that allowed the Raiders to break open the game. He was waived by the Jets on Sept. 19 and signed with the Giants practice squad Oct. 11.

TE Matt LaCosse, let go last week, was signed to the practice squad, as was OL Nick Becton.
