It was an “L’’ of a mistake. Vermont’s capital, Montpelier, is named after the French city of Montpellier, which has a double L.

So when the French city’s soccer team got a shipment of jerseys with only one L, its mayor decided to donate them to the US city.

Montpelier Mayor John Hollar thanked Montpellier Mayor Philippe Saurel on Thursday and said he plans to give the shirts to local high-school soccer teams.

A South Carolina man who spent the night drinking decided he wanted a meal at 3 a.m. So Alex Bowen, of South Columbia, walked to the local Waffle House, where he found the one worker asleep.

So he walked behind the counter and made himself a bacon-and-cheese melt.

Bowen later sent the store a check for the food.

Officials at a Minnesota college want to throw the book at Max the cat, who loves to hang out in the school’s library.

The library at Macalester College in St. Paul hung a poster on the door reading “Please do not let in the cat,’’ admitting he’s “nice,’’ but insisting that neither the library staff nor Max’s owner want him in the building.

Max was so depressed after being locked out that his owner is training him to walk on a leash. That way she can accompany him to the school’s grounds where he can reunite with all his intellectual pals.

The monkey presumably is now taking pictures of his fans on the outside.

His mother then turned toward the rescuers and raised her trunk, in a gesture identified by locals as a salute.
