Giants OC lands on Broncos staff
The exodus has begun at 1925 Giants Drive. Mike Sullivan, the resourceful assistant coach and part of Tom Coughlin’s original 2004 staff, has moved on and is headed to Denver.
Sullivan, 50, is the new Broncos quarterbacks coach, according to the Denver Post. He was the Giants offensive coordinator the past two seasons, taking over the playcalling from Ben McAdoo in Week 6 this past season, directing the offense in a 23-10 victory over, coincidentally, the Broncos in Denver, breaking a season-opening, five-game losing streak.
Sullivan was Eli Manning’s quarterbacks coach in 2010-11 and again in 2015 following a two-year stay as the Buccaneers’ offensive coor- dinator. He has a close relationship with Manning, something to consider if the situation changes with the Giants and Manning needs a new team.
New Giants general manager Dave Gettleman last week informed the assistant coaches they were free to seek employment elsewhere, and also that he would recommend the new head coach consider them for jobs, if they desired to stay with the team.
A longtime and loyal assistant, Sullivan is a former Army Ranger who became a trusted Coughlin ally and was retained when McAdoo became the head coach in 2015. Sullivan was the wide receivers coach on the 2007 championship team and the quarterbacks coach on the 2011 title team.
