Lloyd coming home to Jersey

The state that bred the two-time FIFA World Player of the Year has welcomed her home.

Carli Lloyd is returning to New Jersey to play for Sky Blue FC after the club acquired the American star in a blockbuster three-team trade on Thursday’s draft day for the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL).

In exchange for the 35-yearold Lloyd, Canadian forward Janine Beckie and Jen Hoy, Sky Blue sent the 2017 NWSL Player of the Year, Australian forward Sam Kerr, and midfielder Nikki Stanton to the Chicago Red Stars.

The Houston Dash, Lloyd’s former team, picked up United States forward Christen Press.

A whirlwind of trade activity and five draft selections later — Sky Blue also obtained the No. 6 and No. 13 picks in the deal, to go along with Nos. 4, 5, and 35 — firstyear head coach Denise Reddy summed it up on Friday as the “busiest day I’ve ever had as a coach, hands down.”

The legwork paid off, however, in making Lloyd’s homecoming dream a reality and bringing the Rutgers grad to the New Jersey fans.

Sky Blue play their home games at Rutgers.

“For Carli, from Day 1 since I actually got the job, she’s expressed an interest in coming home. She’s said no disrespect anywhere else, I would finally like to come home toward the end of my career and I want to be there,” Reddy told The Post by phone from the United Soccer Coaches Convention in Philadelphia. “That for us has been a driving factor in trying to actually get this done. We want players that want to be here, that want to play for Sky Blue, that want to make this something special.”

The addition of Lloyd came at a cost, with Kerr, the league’s leading goalscorer last season (17) at just 24 years old, shipping off to Chicago.
