MYLES JACK

-

Jaguars linebacker Myles Jack took a timeout from preparing for the AFC Championship game against the Patriots for some Q&A with Post columnist Steve Serby. Q: Tom Brady’s hand injury. A: Our coaches haven’t said anything about it. I just feel like in order to beat Brady, we have to play a perfect game, and communication has to be key. Q: You played with Josh Rosen at UCLA in 2015. A: That’s my guy. Q: How good will he be in the pros? A: In my opinion, I feel like there’s nobody better than Josh Rosen. I remember his freshman year, my junior year, we played the University of Virginia, and he threw passes right on the money. I don’t want to say Brady-like, but I feel like Josh has that ability in him if he focuses and goes to the right team and ends up in the right system, I don’t feel like there’s any reason why he shouldn’t be the No. 1 pick in the draft. Q: What about stories that he doesn’t always get along with teammates and has an outsized personality? A: What I would say to that is No. 1, I’ve never had a problem with him, I don’t think anybody on the team ever had any problems with him. Josh is very intelligent. I don’t want to say it intimidates you, but I think he can rub people the wrong way if they don’t know how to take it or how to take Josh. Josh is intelligent, and Josh is a winner, man. I’m not just saying this ’cause he was my teammate — I firmly believe Josh has the potential to be one of the greats. And with the talent he has, with everybody comparing him to Sam Darnold, I just feel like Sam Darnold had a better team than Josh had. I feel like if you put Josh Rosen on the team Sam Darnold had, they go to the national championship. If you put Sam Darnold on the team Josh had ... Q: He throws a pretty good ball, right? A: He throws a spiral on the money, man, it’s gonna be right where you want it to be. Q: How would he do in New York? A: I think he’d be great in New York. People get into this personality thing — you want a quarterback that’s confident, you want a quarterback that’s gonna come in and command the huddle. Your quarterback has to be like that, he has to be headstrong, in my opinion. I think Josh would thrive in New York. I think he would definitely put up bulletin board material with the things he’d say that people would take it out of context, and I think he’d be a winner, so that’s something New York would definitely love. Q: Your on-field mentality? A: I would say a focused ... another word for destruction ... very focused but at the same time, it’s all bad intentions. It’s aggressive, it’s violent ... I’m just irritable, I want to hit everybody, I just want to hurt people when I put the helmet on. Q: Sounds like “The Terminator.” A: Yeah! Something like that. Q: Jalen Ramsey’s guarantee the Jags will win the Super Bowl. A: If Jalen says we’re winning the Super Bowl, then we definitely gotta prove that, and I’m working hard every day to make sure that we go out and beat the Patriots, and then hopefully have a chance to play for the Super Bowl. Q: Jalen? A: He’s probably the freakiest athlete I’ve seen. Q: Wouldld youyou likelike to take a crack at coveringg Rob Gronkowski? A: Absolutely. utely. Q: How do you do that? A: To be that big and that fast and that strong, you really have try get hands on him the best you can, and don’t give him any space because if you do that, he’ll eat you alive. Q: Leonard Fournette? A: He can spin, he can juke, he can run people over. He can do so many things. When it’s all said and done, he’ll be considered one of the best for sure. Q: Doug Marrone? A: He’s very big on, like, details and being on time, being where you’re supposed to be, knowing your assignment, just simplifying things and doing your job. Q: Tom Coughlin? A: Coach Coughlin, when he says something, it’s very important. He’s always giving me little tidbits. Q: Are you aware that he beat Brady and Bill Belichick twice in the Super Bowl? A: Yeah, definitely. His M.O. is just kinda having the Patriots’ number. Q: Your Saturday night routine? A: I stay up kinda late and just binge watch on film, take my final notes. I really just try to get it to the point where when I wake up I’m just thinking about football and I’m already in that mindset. I’m more than ready to go after those guys. Q: Game day? A: I don’t eat on game day. I don’t like the feeling of having food in my stomach. Q: Are you still motivated by falling into the second round (knee concerns) in the 2016 draft? A: It’ll motivate me to the day I die. Q: Boyhood idol? A: Marshall Faulk. Back then I wanted to be a running back so bad. I cried when the Patriots hit that field goal against him in the Super Bowl. Q: Ray Lewis? A: He really made me fall in love with defense. His drive and passion and I just remember being young and seeing Ray Lewis hit people so hard. In Madden, they created the hit stick button because of him. Q: Athletes in other sports? A: LeBron James is my favorite athlete of all time. Just his work ethic, how he takes care of his body, and not only that, just how he keeps everything private. You don’t ever hear anything bad about him, you don’t ever see pictures of him doing anything crazy, or there’s no scandals about LeBron. He’s The King, he does everything right. Q: You can pick the brain of one linebacker. pation. ti Q: In the old days? A: Lawrence Taylor, definitely. Q: One running back in history to test your skills against. A: Jim Brown. He really used to punk people, man. Q: Three dinner guests? A: Gucci Mane; Prince; Barack Obama. Q: Favorite movie? A: Creed Q: Favorite actor? A: Omari Hardwick. Q: Favorite actress? A: Scarlett Johansson. Q: Favorite meal? A: Tacos. Q: Your mother? A: That’s my rock, man. Q: How good of a cook are you? A: I’m real big on getting on that grill, man, that’s my thing. Q: You have three dogs. A: I have two pit bulls and a Presa Canario. Q: Why do you believe the Jaguars can beat the Patriots? A: I just feel like this team is different. People haven’t even realized the potential that we have on this team, the guys we have on ththis team. Q: OOn a scale of 1-10, where is the confidence fide level? A: CoConfidence is definitely at a 10. Guys are reready to play right now. Q: YoYour confidence level in Blake Bortles? Bortl A: 100 percent, 10 out of 10, however you want to put it, man. Q: WWhat kind of a game should we expect? expe A: At some point, I don’t know when, I’ll impact impac the game somehow, some way in a positive positi way. Q: HoHow do you want to be rememberedbered? A: I want to be remembered as someone that changed the position. Those once-in-ageneration players that come around, like a Deion Sanders, or your Ray Lewises, or your Tom Bradys, Peyton Manning, Patrick Willis ... there’s plenty of ’em. Those guys that when they leave and they retire, they get a ceremony, you know what I mean?
