Fest of West touts newbies

- By JENNIFER GOULD KEIL

The 11th annual Taste of the Upper West Side — a twonight foodie fest that highlights local restaurants — will preview five new eateries this spring.

The May shindig will honor top Michelin-starred chef John Fraser, who made his name with Dovetail as well as Nix, Narcissa and The Loyal; and restaurateur Jacob “Pickles” Hadjigeorgis, of Jacob’s Pickles and Maison Pickle.

The new restaurants include Lucky Pickle Dumpling Co., from Hadjigeorgis, which is slated to open in May at 513 Amsterdam Ave. Scheduled to open in June are Make My Cake, from owner Aliyyah Baylor, at 795 Columbus Ave., as Side Dish previously reported; Joe Ragonese’s Elea, at 213 W. 85th St.; and Twin Palms, from Chef Ryan Turner, at 200 W. 84th St.

Nobody Told Me, from Nick Pfannerstill, is slated to open in July at 951 Amsterdam Ave.

“We have had an explosion of new restaurants on the Upper West Side,” said Don Evans, chairman of the event.

The first event, Summer in the City, honoring Hadjigeorgis, will be held May 18 and feature music from DJ Phresh.

The second event, Best of the West, honors Fraser on May 19. Tickets for the VIP reception are $235.

Both events will be under the grand tent at O’Shea Complex Schoolyard, at Columbus Avenue between West 76th and 77th streets.

Juice Press shops have made a splash with their edgy look and celeb fans, from Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel to Justin Bieber, Kendall Jenner and Bruce Springsteen.

Now, Juice Press is branching into an even newer trend — jars. If juicing gets you ‘hangry’ — or if your body is simply craving some real solid foods — Juice Press has introduced a new “Clean Eating Plan,” which offers “nutrient-dense” jars of dishes like noodles with pesto mushrooms, along with salads and hot soups like red lentil and butternut squash.

The Juice Press Clean Eating Plan runs around 1,390 to 1,580 calories a day. The three-day plan costs $160 while the five-day plan is $235.

WE HEAR .… that restaurateurs Tal and Yagur Sheinman, of Resette, are co-owners of Root Out, a root beer-flavored Canadian whisky favored by celebs like actor Josh Lucas, musician Albert Hammond Jr. of the Strokes, and country singer Luke Bryan. The drink, exclusively distributed through D&S Beverages, debuted at this past weekend’s South Beach Wine & Food Festival.
