Cespedes sidelined with wrist soreness

PORT ST. LUCIE — Aches and pains continue to find Yoenis Cespedes.

The Mets slugger was scratched from Tuesday’s lineup against the Astros with right wrist soreness that Cespedes says he incurred swinging at a pitch seven days earlier. Cespedes received Xrays on Tuesday, the results of which were negative, according to the Mets.

“It started bothering me [last] Tuesday, but I felt with the rest day and the day off [Monday] — and I talked to the trainer before that — and I thought with the rest that I had it would be good for today, but it isn’t,” Cespedes said.

With more than two weeks remaining before Opening Day, manager Mickey Callaway didn’t seem worried Cespedes will miss regular-season action.

“I think everybody has those little things,” Callaway said. “It’s not ideal, but he swung too hard the other day and kind of irritated it.

“It’s something he’s been battling the last few days, he’s had it in the past. We are just day-to-day and trying to be cautious with him at this point.”

Cespedes, who homered against the Astros on Sunday, was bothered by shoulder tightness earlier in camp that caused him to miss action.

Cespedes, who has played left field in recent days, indicated he hasn’t needed to throw at 100 percent yet to fully test the shoulder.

Last season Cespedes battled quadriceps and hamstring injuries that limited him to 81 games, causing him to change his workout routine in the offseason. To this point Cespedes’ legs have not been an issue in spring training.

Cespedes is 6-for-23 (.261) in the exhibition season with three homers and five RBIs.
