Drury takes next step in rehab at Triple-A

- By DAN MARTIN

Brandon Drury went 2-for-4 for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday in his first rehab game since being sidelined with blurred vision and migraines on April 7.

He played seven innings at third base, as scheduled, and had a pair of singles and scored two runs, while driving in one for the RailRiders in an 8-5 win over Columbus in Moosic, Pa.

The Yankees want to wait and see how he responds physically to playing before mapping out his schedule too far, but he is expected to play a full game for SWB on Friday after the team has an off-day Thursday.

Miguel Andujar’s emergence has lessened the impact of Drury’s absence at third base. Andujar continued to hit for the Yankees in their 7-4 win over the Twins at the Stadium.

After seeing his extra-base hit streak end at seven games on Tuesday, Andujar doubled again on Wednesday before he was replaced by Ronald Torreyes in the eighth for defensive purposes.

“In a lot of ways, that’s what we’ve got [Torreyes] there for,” Aaron Boone said. “With Minnesota and all their lefties, this is a team we shift against maybe more than anyone. [Torreyes] is like a middle infielder.”

➤ Gleyber Torres played his fourth straight game at second base after being called up from SWB. He doubled and scored. After going hitless in his MLB debut, Torres has five hits in his last three games.

With the double, Torres became the youngest Yankee with an extra-base hit since Derek

Jeter in 1995. Torres also made several solid plays at second, including to end the top of the fourth, when Tyler Austin couldn’t see Brian Dozier’s pop-up through the rain with runners on the corners and two outs. Torres raced over and made a fine catch near the first-base line to limit the Twins to just one run in the inning.

➤ Brett Gardner got the start in center against Minnesota, with

Aaron Hicks given a night off. Gardner entered the game in a 2for-22 slide, but had still managed to score five runs in that six-game stretch.

He singled and scored in the first inning on Wednesday.

“He’s getting on base, that’s the biggest thing,” Boone said of Gardner, who also walked six times. “I don’t think he’s far off.” ... Aaron Judge had a single, two walks and a sacrifice fly. … Ar

oldis Chapman improved to 4for-4 in save chances this season with a scoreless ninth.

➤ After going four straight games without an error, the Yankees made four on Tuesday and entered Wednesday having made an MLB-high 22 on the season.

“Overall, we’ve got to be a little bit better,’’ Boone said. “We’ve got to be better at finishing the play. I feel like we’re working hard, we’re in position and then it’s just finishing that play sometimes. Defense is a funny thing. It’s not like 90 percent of the time is good. One thing happens and all of a sudden, it’s not a great day, technically. I think, in time, we’ll be all right.”

They were error-free again on Wednesday. ➤ Top prospect Justus Shef

field gave up one earned run in six innings for Double-A Trenton against Harrisburg on Wednesday afternoon and said on Twitter that he was heading to the Yankees game Wednesday night “to watch.”

Boone said he’s been “encouraged” by how the 21-year-old has pitched recently. He’s given up just four earned runs in his last three starts, covering 17 2/3 innings.

“He struggled a little bit in spring training” Boone said. “To see him now in back-to-back starts where he been strong, striking guys out, pounding the strike zone, it’s good to see.”
