TRAINING DAY

- —BrianCostello

SQUEAKY CLEAN

The first week of practice has been filled with penalties for the Jets, but they had a pretty clean practice Thursday. There were only two penalties called during the team periods, both on the offense. Todd Bowles’ penalty push-ups might be working.

TRE WRECK

There was a scary moment in practice when wide receiver Tre

McBride ran full speed into the goal post on an overthrow from

Sam Darnold. While it looked awful, McBride was OK and was able to continue to practice.

CAUGHT MY EYE

Backup safety Terrence Brooks has had a strong training camp so far. On Thursday, he delivered a huge hit on wide receiver Charles

Johnson, who was running an end around. The hit drew big cheers from the defensive players watching from the sideline, with fellow safety Jamal Adams being the loudest.

QB DERBY

It was a pretty good day for all three quarterbacks, but Darnold stole the show during a goal line period at the end of practice. He made two pretty play-action passes. The first was to a tightly covered

Dimitri Flowers out of the backfield. Darnold floated the ball perfectly to him. The second was to a wideopen Clive Walford in the back of the end zone, a pass Darnold zipped in there.

MEDICAL REPORT

The injuries are starting to mount. WR Quincy Enunwa (hand) missed his second straight day. Rookie CB Parry Nickerson left practice with a hamstring injury. … TE Jordan Leggett was out again with an undisclosed injury. Safety Kacy Rodgers II, DL Deon Simon, DL Shaneil Jenkins, LB Kevin PierreLouis and RB Thomas Rawls were all out, too. WR Charone Peake is wearing a red no-contact jersey.
