HOOPS: Nets forward has strain

Nets forward Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who was injured playing in a charity game sponsored by former teammate Jeremy Lin in China on Saturday, has been diagnosed with a left adductor strain and will begin rehabbing the injury immediatel­y. The Nets made the announceme­nt Wednesday. The injury is not believed serious. — Fred Kerber Former Net Jahlil Okafor has agreed to a two-year contract with the Pelicans according to reports. The free-agent center’s deal reportedly is partially guaranteed for next season and includes a team option for season two.

In White Plains, Candace Parker had 13 points, eight rebounds and six assists and the Sparks beat the Liberty 82-81. The Liberty’s Sugar Rodgers made two 3pointers in the final 10 seconds, but Parker ran out the clock. Tina Charles led the Liberty (7-22) with 27 points.

MLB: Devers return powers Bosox

Rafael Devers returned from the disabled list and hit a two-run home run, Brian Johnson won his second straight start and the Red Sox won 10-5 at Toronto to extend their winning streak to six games. Devers was out with a strained left hamstring. In Oakland, Calif., newly acquired Mike Fiers pitched 5¹/3 solid innings and the Athletics beat the Dodgers 3-2. In Arlington, Texas, Joey Gallo homered twice and drove in four runs, Yovani Gallardo won his fourth straight start and the Rangers held off the Mariners 11-7.

In Milwaukee, Jesus Aguilar, Travis Shaw and Eric Thames hit consecutiv­e first-inning homers to spoil the major league debut of the Padres’ Brett Kennedy and propel the Brewers to an 8-4 victory. Kennedy, who was 10-0 in Triple-A, was tagged for six runs on 11 hits in four innings.

In Washington, Charlie Culberson homered in a third straight game, Tyler Flowand Ronald Acuna Jr. added two-run shots and the Braves beat the Nationals 8-3.

In Phoenix, Patrick Corbin struck out nine in a combined four-hitter, and the Diamondbac­ks rolled over the Phillies 6-0.

ETC: Browns rook had gun parts

Browns rookie receiver Antonio Callaway had a gun part — the backstrap for a Glock handgun — and ammunition in his car when he was cited for marijuana possession and a suspended driver’s license on Sunday, according to dash-camera footage. The presence of the strap and ammunition was not mentioned in the Strongsvil­le, Ohio, police report. Coach Hue Jackson said he only learned of the situation on Tuesday and wanted to gather more informatio­n before commenting further.

Australian golfer Jarrod Lyle has died after a long struggle with cancer. He was 36. Lyle last week announced his decision to forego further treatment and enter palliative care.

“It breaks my heart to tell everyone that Jarrod is no longer with us,” the golfer’s wife, Briony Lyle, said in a statement. “He passed away peacefully at 8.20 p.m. last night having spent his final week among his family and close friends.”
