A woman went berserk on cops in Midtown on Tuesday afternoon — biting one, assaulting two others with a chemical spray and waving a hammer around, according to police and witnesses.

The officers responded to a 911 call about an assault in progress at East 38th Street and Madison Avenue at around 12:23 p.m. as two women were arguing in the street, according to witnesses.

One of the women, Maxine Myod, then attacked the officers, sinking her teeth into one policeman’s right elbow and using a can of chemical spray on another cop and a policewoman, according to authorities.

“I heard them say, ‘You’re coming with us.’ Then she started yelling, ‘No! No! No!’ And all I saw was this woman spraying. She sprayed two cops in the eye,” said a local worker who asked to remain anonymous.

“I thought maybe it was hairspray. But then I noticed it was a direct stream . . . One of the . . . officers was visibly crying.”

Myod also allegedly pulled out a large yellow and blue hammer, the witnesses said.

“She tried to hit the cop with a hammer,” said Francis Oforr, 65, who works in a nearby building.

Myod, 48, was taken to Bellevue Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, while the three cops went to Lenox Hill Hospital, in stable condition, the NYPD said.

Myod has been charged with assault on an officer, resisting arrest, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing.
