Apple’s No. 2 Cue draws wake-up call

- By ALEXANDRA STEIGRAD

Hey, Siri — can you keep quiet while I take a nap?

Apple executive Eddy Cue was so bored in meetings about the tech giant’s Siri voice assistant that he appeared to fall asleep in at least two instances, according to a report.

Cue — who heads up Apple’s Web-based initiatives, including its music and video businesses — has displayed a notable lack of interest in a number of projects under his supervision, according to The Information, a tech news site.

“Mr. Cue is sometimes known to fall silent, shut his eyes and tilt his head back, leaving other participants to wonder whether he is staring at the ceiling or sleeping,” the site reported Wednesday, citing several former Apple employees.

“In at least two of these situations, Mr. Cue began snoring,” the site reported.

Cue, who has played No. 2 to Chief Exec- utive Tim Cook since Steve Jobs died in 2011, is blasted by critics for being slow to react to the rise of music streamers such as Spotify — as well as the video streamers Netflix, Hulu and Amazon.

Three years after Spotify launched in the US, Cue finally spearheaded a deal to buy Beats to boost Apple’s music-streaming credentials.

But squabbling between Beats and Apple employees quickly ensued.

Cue — who makes upwards of $30 million a year, according to regulatory filings — failed to referee these squabbles, the report said.

“There were almost literally fist fights over design aspects, features, aesthetics,” a person working on the project said. “They all hated each other.”

Apple didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

Shares of the Cupertino, Calif., company slipped $1.49 on Wednesday, to $226.87.
