A’s keep pace with Yanks; Braves clinch

Stephen Piscotty scored on Trevor Hildenberg­er’s wild pitch in the ninth inning, and the Athletics cut their magic number to clinch a playoff berth to one with their second straight walk-off win over the Twins, 3-2 on Saturday night in Oakland, Calif.

Marcus Semien homered for Oakland, which opened a 7½-game lead over Tampa Bay for the AL’s second wild card. The A’s trail AL Westleadin­g Houston by 3½ games and are 1½ games behind the Yankees, who clinched the first wild card earlier Saturday.

Braves 5, Phillies 3

The Braves capped a most surprising season by clinching their first NL East crown since 2013, with Mike Foltynewic­z taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning in a 5-3 win over the Phillies in Atlanta.

Cardinals 5, Giants 4

In St. Louis, Tyler O’Neill hit a solo home run with two outs in the 10th inning to power the Cardinals.

St. Louis stayed 1½ games ahead of Colorado for the second NL wildcard spot and moved within two games of Brewers, who lost in Pittsburgh, for the top spot.

Rockies 5, D’backs 1

In Phoenix, Antonio Senzatela allowed three hits in seven innings for Colorado.

Blue Jays 5, Rays 2

In Toronto, Thomas Pannone pitched 6 2/3 innings as the Jays dealt another blow to the Rays’ playoff hopes.
