Turnovers doom Scarlet Knights in rout by Maryland
Kasim Hill threw three touchdown passes, Ty Johnson ran for 132 yards and Maryland had five interceptions against woeful Rutgers in a 34-7 victory Saturday in College Park, Md.
Johnson had 121 first-half rushing yards as the Terrapins (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten) led 24-0 at halftime and cruised to the finish.
Rutgers (1-6, 0-4) lost its sixth straight. Freshman quarterback Artur Sitkowski was pulled late in the third quarter after going 2-for-16 for 8 yards with four interceptions.
Army 52, San Jose St. 3
In Santa Clara, Calif., Kelvin Hopkins Jr. ran for 99 yards and a season-high three touchdowns and threw for a fourth, and Army (4-2) beat San Jose State (0-6) in the Black Knights’ first trip to the West Coast in four years.
Fordham 43, Lehigh 14
In Bethlehem, Pa., Tim DeMorat threw for 299 yards and two touchdowns and ran for a third and Fordham (1-5, 1-1 Patriot League) collected its first win of the season, routing Lehigh (1-5, 0-1) for first-year coach Joe Conlin’s initial victory with the Rams.
Wagner 23, Saint Francis 22
In Staten Island, wide receiver D’Erren Wilson threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Chris Woodard off a reverse with 6 seconds to play and Wagner (2-5, 1-1 NEC) rallied to snatch victory from Saint Francis of Pennsylvania (2-4, 0-1).
Stony Brook 35, New Hampshire 7
In Durham, N.H., Joe Carbone threw for two touchdowns, Stony Brook had an interception return and a fumble return for scores and the Seawolves (5-2, 3-1 CAA) rolled to victory over New Hampshire (1-5, 0-3).
Monmouth 36, Bucknell 19
In West Long Branch, N.J., Kenji Bahar threw for 274 yards and two scores, Juwon Farri ran for 183 yards and a career-long 79-yard touchdown and Monmouth (4-2) defeated Bucknell (1-6).
Marist 20, Jacksonville 17
In Jacksonville, Fla., Austin Day threw for two touchdowns in the fourth quarter as Marist (2-4, 2-1 Pioneer League) charged back to knock off Jacksonville (1-4, 0-3).
Penn 13, Columbia 10
In Philadelphia, Ryan Glover scored on a 4-yard run with 6:55 left to lift Penn (4-1, 1-1 Ivy League). Josh Bean threw a 21-yard TD pass to Kaleb Pitts for Columbia (3-2, 0-2).
