THE POST’S TOP TEN

-

1. Alabama (8-0) (Last week: 1)

The fourth quarter of NFL preseason games are as interesting as Alabama’s contests. The Crimson Tide have yet to play a meaningful final quarter this year, unless you’re concerned with the point spread.

2. Clemson (7-0) (4)

This was as much about the ACC as Clemson, that the Tigers could handle the only other undefeated left in the league with such ease, manhandling N.C. State 41-7 on Saturday.

3. Notre Dame (7-0) (3)

The remaining schedule isn’t daunting, but it is tricky, specifically games against Northwestern and Syracuse, teams that have proven capable of pulling off upsets.

4. LSU (7-1) (5)

Let the hype begin — nearly two weeks of it — before Alabama visits the Bayou on Nov. 3. The last time the two met with so much on the line was 2015, when the Crimson Tide started a season-derailing three-game losing streak for the Tigers.

5. Michigan (7-1) (6)

This was probably the best day for Michigan football since Jim Harbaugh’s introductory press conference. Not only did the Wolverines overwhelm rival Michigan State, but Ohio State was destroyed by Purdue as well, giving them the top spot in the rugged Big Ten East for the moment.

6. Georgia (6-1) (7)

Was the LSU loss a blip or the result of Georgia finally facing a quality opponent? We’ll know Saturday when the Bulldogs host Florida.

7. Ohio State (7-1) (2) Despite the ugly loss to Purdue, Ohio

State can still reach the playoff if it wins out. The issue is the Buckeyes are unable to run the ball and stop their opponents — two qualities Urban Meyer teams rarely lack — and may not be capable of such a run.

8. Texas (6-1) (8)

That sound you hear is all of Austin exhaling. Quarterback Sam Ehlinger’s shoulder is making progress — he has begun throwing — and might not miss any time.

9. Florida (6-1) (9)

No player has benefitted more from a coaching change than quarterback Feleipe Franks, who has blossomed under Dan Mullen, significantly improving his numbers across the board.

10. Central Florida (7-0) (NR)

Even without star quarterback McKenzie Milton (undisclosed injury), UCF rolled past East Carolina, extending its nation-leading win streak to 20 games.
