A Far-Fetched Coverup: The Saudis’ Unlikely Story
The majority of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudis. The Saudis have killed gays and oppressed women (“Saudis ’fess up,” Oct. 10). They beheaded nonviolent Shia cleric Nimr al-Nimr, and they have helped foment civil war in Iraq, Libya and Syria.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has been accused of imprisoning and extorting his own family. His government kidnapped the Lebanese prime minister, imprisons women activists and commits genocide in Yemen, and the world does nothing.
Yet when MBS killed a Washington Post reporter, we’re suddenly ready to end America’s 70-year alliance with Saudi Arabia. Michael Kyle, Lutz, Fla.
The Saudi explanation for the Jamal Khashoggi murder does not hold water. An investigation carried out by the Saudis would be like having retired German judges sitting as the court at the Nuremberg war trials.

Trump initially accepted the Saudi reports about the manner of Khashoggi’s death and called it a “good first step.” Considering that the first explanations, offered about two weeks ago, suggested that he had left the embassy safely, the Saudis’ credibility must be questioned.

The murder of Jamal Khashoggi is hardly an international incident.
