A Far-Fetched Coverup: The Saudis’ Unlikely Story

-

The majority of the 9/11 hijackers were Saudis. The Saudis have killed gays and oppressed women (“Saudis ’fess up,” Oct. 10). They beheaded nonviolent Shia cleric Nimr al-Nimr, and they have helped foment civil war in Iraq, Libya and Syria.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has been accused of imprisoning and extorting his own family. His government kidnapped the Lebanese prime minister, imprisons women activists and commits genocide in Yemen, and the world does nothing.

Yet when MBS killed a Washington Post reporter, we’re suddenly ready to end America’s 70-year alliance with Saudi Arabia. Michael Kyle, Lutz, Fla.

The Saudi explanation for the Jamal Khashoggi murder does not hold water. An investigation carried out by the Saudis would be like having retired German judges sitting as the court at the Nuremberg war trials.

The hit on Khashoggi was ordered, and it was botched. The Saudis need to be condemned by every democratic nation as well as the International Criminal Court. Phil Serpico Queens

Most of the anti-Trump media and members of Congress are more concerned about a single murder than the economic welfare of the United States.

The Saudi columnist was murdered, and the evidence points to the Saudis as perpetrators. We should investigate and respond proportionally. Don’t cancel a multi- billion-dollar deal that could help American workers and our economy. Thomas Bregenzer Lake Ariel, Pa.

Trump initially accepted the Saudi reports about the manner of Khashoggi’s death and called it a “good first step.” Considering that the first explanations, offered about two weeks ago, suggested that he had left the embassy safely, the Saudis’ credibility must be questioned.

Their most recent statement is that a fistfight resulted in a death. If so, that should have been reported immediately. That should have been the “good first step.” Rest in peace, Jamal Khashoggi. Dennis Fitzgerald Melbourne, Australia

The murder of Jamal Khashoggi is hardly an international incident.

It’s a terrible act of violence toward a citizen of Saudi Arabia in Turkey. Why are we getting involved in this? Pat Love Hicksville
