Enunwa return can’t ignite lackluster offense

- By STEVE SERBY

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Quincy Enunwa tried to make a difference for Sam Darnold, he really did.

“It’s just about all of us trying to make plays and help him out, he’s gonna make mistakes, we know that — I’m not gonna say he’s a rookie who can’t make mistakes, we’re all gonna make mistakes,” Enunwa said after the Jets fell to the Dolphins 13-6. “It’s hard to play mistake-free

football, even as a veteran.”

Enunwa, who had three catches for 40 yards, returned after missing two games with a high ankle sprain.

“I always believed I was gonna be ready to go,” Enunwa said. “I want to try to help the team as much as I can, and I was trying to get back as soon as possible.”

Enunwa was one of the many offensive players who applauded the Jets defense. The offense was pathetic.

“I don’t want to say [the Dolphins defense] did stuff unexpected because we have to react to it and we started to react to it,” Enunwa said.

He returned to practice Friday and he and Robby Anderson (ankle) passed their pregame tests.

“I don’t think it’s anything about the plays that were called. I think we just weren’t executing those plays,” Enunwa said. “When we get penalties, that’s one of our stories is

penalties that kinda mess us up, and then just not executing. I think us as players, we have to kinda come together, especially on the offense, and just pick it up, play at a next level.”

Enunwa resembled Mark Bavaro dragging defenders on his 22-yard catch late in the fourth quarter.

“Just fighting,” Enunwa said. “It was just me trying to help the team out. If I get the ball in my hand, I want to make plays, and any time that I can make

some plays, that’s what I want to do for us.”

The Jets are 3-6: Bring on the Bills!

“It’s tough but it is still there for us,” Enunwa said. “It’s not exactly where we want it to be but in this league, anybody can lose at any time. We know that we just have to keep fighting and keep striving for our goals. Those plays are there for us. We just need to watch the film and make sure we make them next time.”
