Rising ‘Star’ knocks out Babs

BARBRA Streisand might be wishing her album sales were the way they were.

Although the Brooklynborn diva usually debuts at No. 1, her latest album “Walls” is “flirting with a top 10 debut, as it may bow with perhaps 30,000 to 35,000 units,” Billboard reports. (The week’s tally will be announced Sunday.)

Streisand is the top-selling female artist of all time with a total of 68.5 million albums sold. Her last album, “Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway,” sold 149,000 copies in its first week.

But “Walls” doesn’t have any duets with other stars. Along with some famous covers, such as John Lennon’s “Imagine,” the album is just Streisand singing songs of protest against President Trump, including “Don’t Lie to Me,” which she said she wrote because Trump’s policies were keeping her awake.

The lyrics include: “Why can’t you just tell me the truth?”

“The critics liked it, but the public isn’t buying it,” one music industry insider told me.

Even more galling, Lady Gaga’s (right) “A Star Is Born” is eclipsing Streisand’s 1976 version of the movie with Kris Kristofferson, and Gaga’s soundtrack album is crushing “Walls.” “Star” is likely to be No. 2 for its second week on the charts.

When I suggested that some of Streisand’s fans might be Trump supporters, one replied, “Maybe the Trump supporters are too busy attending Klan rallies to buy records.”
