Donnybrook as Trump swings at McCain again

- Mark Moore

President Trump slammed the late Sen. John McCain for a second day in a row Sunday, prompting the Arizona Republican’s daughter and Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Trump ally who was a close friend of the senator’s, to come to the war hero’s defense.

Trump was reacting to new revelations linking McCain to the dis- semination of the dossier compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele that contained unsubstantiated claims about the president colluding with the Russians during the 2016 election.

“So it was indeed (just proven in court papers) ‘last in his class’ (Annapolis) John McCain that sent the Fake Dossier to the FBI and Media hoping to have it printed BEFORE the Election. He & the Dems, working together, failed (as usual). Even the Fake News refused this garbage!” the president wrote on Sunday.

McCain was fifth from the bottom in class rank when he graduated from the Naval Academy in 1958. As a Navy pilot, he endured more than five years of torture after his plane was shot down over Vietnam in 1967.

Meghan McCain rebuked Trump both days for disparaging her father, who died last August of brain cancer.

“My father lives rent free in your head,” she wrote Sunday in a tweet that she has since deleted.

“No one will ever love you the way they loved my father,” McCain, a host on ABC’s “The View,” wrote on Twitter.

Graham (R-SC) defended Sen. McCain without mentioning Trump.

“Nothing about his service will ever be changed or diminished,” he tweeted.
