Francesa himself has become ‘laughingstock’

-

ONLY the unfair would deny Mike Francesa credit where due. To that remarkable end, he has never been wrong about anything — anything — after it happens. On Dec. 8, 1941, he’d have claimed credit for knowing Pearl Harbor would be attacked.

Now “Let’s Be Honest” knew “for a fact” the Jets were in an endgame power struggle, new coach Adam Gase vs. GM Mike Maccag

nan. Yep, he knew it. He just waited for Maccagnan to be jettisoned before claiming he knew it (source: @backaftathis).

Anyway, last month, after ignorantly butchering the Corey Ballentine signing/shooting story, Francesa called the Giants “the laughingstock of the NFL.” Last week, he called the Jets “the laughingstock of the NFL.” Triple coincidence.

Francesa shines particularly bright during Triple Crown season. In 2015, he bashed distinguished trainer Bob Baffert for having two horses — eventual Triple Crown winner American Pharoah and Dortmund — entered in the Preakness.

Though not rare to have two horses entered, Francesa hollered bloody murder, insisting that if Dortmund runs, “Baffert should be fired!”

After American Pharoah won the Triple Crown, Baffert was on Francesa’s show for more than 20 minutes. Francesa, the coward and fraud, failed to mention a word about his “Fire Baffert!” session.

However, he did find time to tell Baffert that he watched the Belmont from his usual seat, “Where it has always been — right on the finish line.”

➤ Last season, for the first time, MLB totaled more strikeouts than hits — but just barely: 41,020 hits to 41,207 strikeouts.

So what did MLB teams do about it? Nothing, perhaps less.

As of Friday, strikeouts this season have a huge lead over hits, 11,382 to 10,708. The Game continues to erode by its own devices.

➤ As if we’re too stupid to know better, the Mets, Mickey Callaway and Robinson Cano, treated Cano jogging into a double play Friday as if it were an anomaly, not his usual style. This time it was the scoreboard’s fault.

➤ CBS on Sunday will replace final-round coverage of the PGA Championship with finalround coverage of last month’s Masters, won by Tiger Woods.
