Cop’s motive: lover

An NYPD cop plotted to murder her estranged husband because he was fighting her for custody of their two young kids, her lover allegedly told authorities.

Investigators have been working John DiRubba, Officer Valerie Cincinelli’s boyfriend-turned-informant, for details about a motive because she immediately lawyered up when arrested Friday, a police source said.

“According to DiRubba, the husband was trying to get custody,’’ the source told The Post Monday.

Cincinelli and her estranged husband, Isaiah Carvalho, have two children, ages 9 and 5, who lived with her before her arrest, Long Island neighbors said. The cop and her husband split up about two years ago, they said.

Neither Carvalho nor Cincinelli’s lawyer responded to requests for comment Monday.

The police source noted one of Cincinelli’s mistakes in her alleged plot was to give DiRubba money for a hit man, saying, “She’s not the brightest bulb in the box. She was . . . stupid because once she gave him the money, that was it. Until she did that, all it was was just talk.’’

Cincinelli is accused of giving DiRubba $7,000 to hire a hit man to take out not only her husband but her boyfriend’s 15-year-old daughter, who she thought was “in the way.’’

When DiRubba told Cincinelli that he wouldn’t allow her to be rubbed out near a school, the cop allegedly spat back, “Run her the f- -k over, how about that.’’

“If [Cincinelli] really said [those things] about his daughter, that might have put [DiRubba] over the top,’’ prompting him to rat her out, the source said.

DiRubba has been a “longtime informant for the FBI,’’ the source added.

The source said Cincinelli, 34, had already been suspended “for over a month’’ for allegedly passing DiRubba confidential information in an unrelated case.
