Scout: Sox get signs or tipped pitches

According to a major league scout, the Red Sox devouring Yankees pitching last weekend at Fenway Park might have been aided by knowing what pitches were coming.

And based on the Red Sox’s rearranging the furniture in New England’s living room and swinging wet newspapers at Yankee Stadium, there might be something to it.

With the Red Sox in The Bronx for four games in three days starting Friday night, the difference in Boston’s bats at home and on the road is startling.

“It looks like they are tipping pitches or the Red Sox have a system where they are getting signs,’’ the scout said of games in Boston.

In the two games the blood rivals played at Yankee Stadium, the Red Sox scored a total of three runs and were blanked in one. The two-game total of hits was 11 and the Yankees went 2-0.

In four games at Fenway last weekend, the Red Sox crushed Yankees pitching for 44 runs and 62 hits and took three of four.

And what about the two games in London in late June?

Thanks to a closed-in stadium that affected breaking balls, a lightning-fast turf and short center-field fence, the numbers on each side were arena baseball-like as the Yankees took both games.

Brett Gardner and Gary Sanchez can come off the IL on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

While the move to activate Sanchez is easy — Kyle Higashioka goes to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre — clearing a space for Gardner is a little more involved.

Considering how well outfielder Mike Tauchman is playing (.423, four homers and 13 RBIs in the last 16 games) it would be difficult to send him out. More likely infielder

Breyvic Valera will be optioned to SWB with Tyler Wade staying. Wade can play second, short, third and the outfield in an emergency.

Gardner hasn’t played since July 20 due to an inflamed left knee. Sanchez is on the IL with a strained right groin and has been out since July 24.
