The Kennedy family spent months trying to get Saoirse Kennedy Hill into treatment for her depression before her death this week, according to a report.

The 22-year-old Boston College student’s mom, Courtney Kennedy Hill, told close family friend Luciana Klosterman the family was “trying to find a place for Saoirse,” Klosterman told the Daily Mail.

“Maybe two or three months ago, I talked to her over the phone. She was in California,” Klosterman said of Courtney. “She was trying to find a place for Saoirse there, to help with her depression.”

Saoirse (inset) was found dead of a suspected drug overdose at her family’s Hyannis Port estate Thursday afternoon.

The exact cause of death is pending a toxicology report, according to authorities, who said an initial autopsy revealed no signs of trauma.

Family sources told Page Six she had not been known to party and that “there’s never been any sign to the family that Saoirse was drinking or taking drugs.”

Former US Rep. Patrick Kennedy, 52, who has fought his own battles with bipolar disorder and drug addiction, praised Saoirse to NBC News for being open about her mental illness.

“She’s a real hero in my family. She broke the silence,” he said. “We mourn her loss but her memory will live on as someone who wasn’t going to keep silent and wasn’t going to be feeling as if she had something shameful but rather something medical that she sought treatment for.

“This affects every single family in America, it’s way past time that we deal with this in a way that we would deal with any other public health crisis,” he added.
