Weird BUT true

Weird but true — and tragic.

A 76-year-old cyclist in Australia crashed into a fence and was killed Sunday when he swerved to avoid a magpie that flew into him.

Swooping magpies are common in Australia’s spring season and have injured bicyclists in the past. An arctic wolf that vanished without a trace from a North Carolina animal conservatory two months ago has suddenly reappeared, prowling around the area.

Named Buster, the wolf slipped away from his enclosure at the Meredith Wolf Education and Conservation Den in June.

The conservatory’s head, Lisa Meredith, warned Harnett County residents not to approach Buster — and also not to shoot him. He’s lucky he looked before he squatted.

A Houston Airbnb renter had a surprise when he showed up at the home — and found a 4-foot snake coiled up in the toilet bowl.

The startled renter took a video of the slithering black-and-gray creature.

It’s not clear how it got there.

Airbnb said it gave the renter a refund. In this case, DWI stands for Driving While Idiotic.

A Denver man was charged with operating a vehicle while under the influence when he rammed into a police patrol car — on a stand-up scooter.

The man was hospitalized with minor injuries after the crash, which happened near Coors Field. It’s hard enough to run a marathon, but this group of friends did it with small trees tied to their backs.

The group of 20 completed the Cape Town Marathon in South Africa Sunday while hauling saplings.

Their goal was to promote the planting of native trees instead of invasive species.

Local businesses have poured $3.7 million into a fund to eradicate invasive trees around the port city.
