Prez hits Dems as impeach ‘pirates’

- Bob Fredericks

President Trump on Thursday called Democrats “pirates” for pursuing his impeachment — saying they’re out to get him only because they know they can’t beat him at the ballot box in 2020.

“It’s a disgrace to our country,” he said as he arrived at Joint Base Andrews after spending the week at the UN General Assembly.

“It’s another witch hunt, here we go again. It’s [House Intelligence Committee Chair] Adam Schiff and his crew making up stories and sitting there like pirates, whatever you want to call them. It really is a disgrace. It’s a terrible thing for our country.”

Democrats, he contended, can’t get the nation’s business done because they are obsessed with impeaching him over his phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which Trump pushed for a corruption probe involving Joe Biden and son Hunter, who was on the board of a Ukranian natural-gas company.

“They can’t do any work, they’re frozen, the Democrats are going to lose the election,” he said.

“And I have to put up with Adam Schiff on an absolutely perfect phone call to the new president of Ukraine,” he said.

Ukraine prosecutor Yuriy Lutsenko investigated Hunter Biden and concluded there was no evidence of wrongdoing by either Biden.

Trump earlier Thursday told a private gathering in Manhattan that the person who provided information to the whistleblower was “close to a spy” — and said, “You know what we used to do in the old days when we were smart? Right? The spies and treason, we used to handle it a little differently than we do now,” Trump said, according to audio obtained by the LA Times.
