CC sticks with Yanks as special adviser to Cash
CC Sabathia is going to be a special adviser to Yankees GM Brian Cashman, The Post has learned.
The role is expected to be one of significance with Sabathia wanting to have a big front-office presence in his post-playing career.
“I will take as much CC as I can get,” Cashman told The Post.
Cashman added that he and Sabathia have had several conversations about his role this winter. The GM expects Sabathia to work at the major league and minor league levels.
As part of Sabathia’s new Yankees role, there are talks to also make him part of the YES Network’s Yankee broadcasts.
Th e interesting part of t hi s equation will be whether he will work with Michael Kay. Sources said Sabathia is not a fan of Kay. The i ss ue is a pparently about some of Kay’s commentary through the years.
If Sabathia ends up in the Yankees booth, he is not expected to have a heavy amount of YES games. Kay is the TV voice of the Yankees, so it still may be difficult to avoid Kay’s games.
Sabathia is close with YES’ f ill-in play-by-player, Ryan Ruocco. The pair host a podcast together.
In May, Sabathia told The Post he would not wear a suit and tie to call games. It is unclear if he or YES will relent on that desire.
Sabathia and Kay were unavailable for comment.

“I want to be a part of the Yankees still, front off ice, whatever, however we can work that out,” Sabathia said.
Sabathia is expected to make around $250,000 in his new ro l e, according to sources. The potential future Hall of Famer made $260 mil l i on during hi s playing career.
As part of the May interview, Sabathia gave hints t hat he would prefer to work with Ruocco over Kay.
“I would love to do YES,” Sabathia said. “I think me and Ruocco would have fun doing the games on the air.”
He also f irst stated his opposition to suits then.
“I’m not wearing a suit,” t he 6 - foot- 6 , 300-pound Sabathia said. “Why do I need to wear a suit to talk about baseball? It is f--king stupid to wear a suit. Guys on the field aren’t wearing dress clothes. People in the stands aren’t wearing dress clothes. It makes no sense. If they let me go up there in a Jordan sweatsuit, I’ll do games all day.”
Cashman doesn’t require his l i e ute na nt s to wear suits. Sabathia continues to live in New Jersey, so he is expected to have a regular presence in The Bronx.
