Torres feeling ‘good’
That Gleyber Torres isn’t feeling pain in his left quadriceps and hamstring is a positive development. So, too, is the Yankees shortstop saying he participated in agility drills on Sunday at 50 percent and didn’t feel discomfort.
However, until Torres starts swinging a bat, the Yankees won’t know when they will get him back from the 10day injured list.
“Not yet, too early,’’ Torres said via Zoom on Sunday following a workout at Yankee Stadium when asked if he has been told by the medical staff when he can start hitting. “Today I did a little bit on the field — walk and run. I feel really good. We will see, maybe next week when we play home I do something.’’
While Aaron Boone didn’t rule out starting slick-fielding third baseman Gio Urshela at short for a game, it appears Tyler Wade and Thairo Estrada will play short and second with DJ LeMahieu and Torres on the shelf.
“That is what we will look to do,’’ Boone said of using Wade and Estrada.
According to Torres, there isn’t a difference between his quadriceps or hamstring.
“About the same. I feel really good right now. I run a little on the field and I don’t feel anything,’’ Torres said.
Boone would have preferred playing at least one game against the Mets on Monday after three Subway Series weekend games at Citi Field were postponed following a Mets player and coach testing positive for the coronavirus.
However, that isn’t going to happen and it could lead to a pair of doubleheaders this coming weekend at Yankee Stadium.
“Obviously [Monday] being out, that would have been nice to get one or even two of these games in [Monday],’’ Boone said Sunday after the Yankees, who haven’t played since Thursday, worked out at Yankee Stadium.
