‘Breonna’ bungle

No-knock cops flubbed ’18 raid, too

- By JORGE FITZ-GIBBON

At least five of the Kentucky cops who stormed Breonna Taylor’s house and killed her in a botched raid also reportedly screwed up a previous warrant — terrorizing an innocent couple and their two children.

Bodycam footage obtained by Vice News shows Louisville Metro Police busting into the home of Mario Daughterty and his girlfriend, Ashlea Burr, in 2018 — hurling flashbangs and screaming at Burr and the couple’s children, ages 13 and 14.

The older girl, Zariyah, dashed out of the back of the house thinking the family was being robbed — and was cornered by police in a nearby alley, with cops pointing guns, the report said.

“It’s like we relive this stuff every day,” Daughterty told the outlet. “I mean, our kids, they’ll never forget about this stuff.”

The officers were armed with a warrant that alleged marijuana was being grown in the house — and burst in although it was not a noknock warrant.

Police said they found a small amount of marijuana but no plants and no evidence that the couple was selling the drug. No charges were ever filed.

The couple filed a lawsuit against the department in October, which is pending.

“We just wanted to get our story out there because we didn’t want this to happen to anybody innocent and anybody’s life to get lost,” Daughterty said.

Five of the cops — identified by Vice as Brett Hankinson, Myles Cosgrove, Mike Campbell, Mike Nobles and Joshua Jaynes — were involved in the March 13 raid that led to Taylor’s shooting death. Hankinson was later fired. Taylor, 26, an EMT, was sleeping when police burst into her home at 1 a.m. and opened fire, hitting her at least eight times.

The Louisville police department did not respond to requests for comment from Vice News.

Meanwhile, a protest in Kentucky (pictured) over her death led to 71 people being arrested on the final day of a four-day event to call for justice in her death, police said. It was unclear what led to the arrests.
