Indy quite familiar to Desir

- By BRIAN COSTELLO

INDIANAPOLIS — Pierre Desir probably figured he would be on the other side of this game back in February.

The cornerback had signed a three-year, $22.9 million contract with the Colts in 2019, but after his play slipped, Indianapolis cut Desir in March. The Jets signed him a day later to a one-year, $3.75 million deal. Now, Desir returns to the place where he spent the last three seasons.

“I would lie if I said there isn’t some type of feeling going back to Indy,” Desir said. “I gave three years there. I have some attachment to the city. The fans are awesome. For me, I just have to make sure I don’t let those emotions overcome what I need to do. I still have a job to do. I still have to go out there and perform. But it’s definitely something in the back of my mind, the situation that happened with Indy.”

➤ Desir is one of 11 former Colts on the Jets roster. The others are: Henry Anderson, Frank Gore, Tarell Basham, Nate Hairston, Matthias Farley, Josh Andrews, Arthur Maulet, Wilson, Thomas Hennessy and Ross Travis. Donte Moncrief, another former Colt, is on the practice squad injured reserve.

“I’ve definitely never experienced anything like this,” Colts coach Frank Reich said of facing so many former players.

Jets assistant GM Rex Hogan spent two years in the Indianapolis front office and has been a driving force behind some of these exColts joining the Jets.

➤ The Jets on Saturday announced they have elevated wide receiver Lawrence Cager and offensive lineman Jimmy Murray from the practice squad for Sunday’s game.

The 6-5, 220-pound Cager signed in May as an undrafted free agent out of Miami. Murray (6-5, 305 pounds) manned both the Chiefs and Jets practice squads last season.
