NY still at 1% infected
New York’s COVID-19 infection rate continues to be at least 1 percent, according to statistics released Sunday.
The state reported 84,770 people tested Saturday, with 866 of them positive, or 1.02 percent.
That’s the fourth day in a row the state’s rate hit at least 1 percent. It was 0.9 percent Sept. 22.
Gov. Cuomo, in tweeting out the latest figures, added that 541 people were hospitalized with the coronavirus in New York as of Saturday.
“Sadly, there were 6 COVID fatalities yesterday,’’ he wrote.
A day earlier, the state recorded more than 1,000 positive COVID-19 tests for the first time since early June, although because of the total number of people tested, the infection rate was still 1 percent.
There also were four reported fatalities Friday and 527 people hospitalized.
According to the latest New York City figures from last week, the Big Apple was holding steady around 1 percent or slightly higher — although sections of Brooklyn are battling rates up to six times that.
The statistics come as Pace University said at least 18 students from the same dorm at one of its campuses have tested positive for the coronavirus, prompting more than 200 people to be quarantined.
The students are among 21 at the school’s Westchester County campus in Pleasantville to have tested positive for the coronavirus in the past two weeks, Pace’s Web site said.
There have also been three reported cases on Pace’s Manhattan campus in the past two weeks, the university said.
