Why I gave $1,000 tips

- Jesse O’Neill

A popular YouTuber who went viral handing out $1,000 cash tips in Chinatown last week has told why he got the Year of the Ox off to a prosperous start for five restaurateurs.

Arieh Smith, 30, is known for his Xiaomanyc channel, where he defies expectations by chatting up people in Mandarin and Cantonese.

His tipping video was funded by Skillshare, a sponsor of Smith’s YouTube channel.

The Lower East Side resident said he wanted to help his favorite business owners make ends meet, as Chinatown residents and tourists alike stay home to prevent COVID spread.

A student was shot and killed at an Arkansas middle school early Monday on the first day full-time classes resumed after months of coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

The incident at Watson Chapel Junior High School in Pine Bluff forced the district into a new emergency lockdown, with one student dead and a second youngster in custody, KARK-TV reported.

The victim was rushed to Arkansas Children’s Hospital by helicopter in “very serious condition,” according to reports.

Police later said the teen had died from his wounds.

Pine Bluff Police Chief Kelvin Sergeant called the incident an “isolated and targeted” attack involving two students enrolled at the school.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki sidestepped when questioned Monday about the administration’s failure to release virtual visitor logs as promised.

Asked during a briefing why the White House had not yet released the logs, Psaki declined to provide an answer, saying sarcastically, “He’s meeting with members of the Senate virtually today.”

“There, I’ve released it for you. What else would you like to know?”
