NCAA: Spartans stop Wolverines

Rocket Watts scored 21 points and Aaron Henry had 18 to lead Michigan State to a 70-64 victory over No. 2 Michigan on Sunday in East Lansing, Mich., that seems to seal coach Tom Izzo’s 23rd consecutiv­e NCAA Tournament bid.

The Spartans (15-11, 9-11 Big Ten) have won five of their last seven games, beating No. 4 Ohio State, No. 5 Illinois and their secondrank­ed rivals during the late-season surge.

The Wolverines (19-3, 14-3) closed the regular season getting routed at home by the Fighting Illini, beating Michigan State handily to seal the Big Ten title and losing the rematch three days later.

In Waco, Texas, MaCio Teague scored 35 points while matching a school record with 10 made 3-pointers and No. 3 Baylor finished undefeated at home for the first time in 73 years with an 88-73 win over No. 18 Texas Tech.

In Iowa City, Iowa, Luka Garza scored 21 points and had 16 rebounds as No. 5 Iowa defeated No. 25 Wisconsin, 77-73.

Tramon Mark hit a long 3-pointer as time expired to lift Houston at home over Memphis, 67-64.

In St. Louis, Cameron Krutwig and

Braden Norris scored 20 points apiece to lead No. 20 Loyola Chicago over Drake in the Missouri Valley Conference championsh­ip game for a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

In Rock Hill, S.C., D.J. Burns scored 22 points and Winthrop took off in the second half to a 80-53 victory over Campbell for its second straight Big South tournament championsh­ip.

In Jacksonvil­le, Fla., Darius McGhee scored 21 points and had eight rebounds as top-seeded Liberty held on for a 79-75 win over North Alabama in the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament championsh­ip game.

In Harrisonbu­rg, Va., Jalen Ray had a career-high 34 points as Hofstra got past Delaware 83-75 in the Colonial Conference tourney quarterfin­als. The defending tournament champions will face Elon on Monday in the semifinals.
