Amazin’s hoping road has Citi feel

- By GREG JOYCE

The Mets were robbed of another chance to build on their strong home record Sunday night.

Now they’ll try to replicate that on the road for a change.

With Sunday’s series finale against the Braves postponed, the Mets settled for a 4-1 homestand that pushed their record at Citi Field this season to 15-5. They flew to Arizona on Sunday night to begin a nine-game road trip, which also stops in San Diego and Baltimore, hoping to improve on their 10-15 road record.

“We play really well at home,” manager Luis Rojas said. “We want to take that game onto the road. I don’t think there’s any different mentality that we take to the road, we just happen to have a different record on the road.

“But I think the guys are comfortable, as well, playing on the road. Here, the crowd helps a lot. I know the guys get energized by our crowd, by the way they’ve been great. Our players feel the support. But I know we can take this game to the road, too.”

➤ The Mets will begin the trip with their ace on the mound, as Jacob deGrom’s start got pushed to Monday because of Sunday’s rainout. David Peterson, who was initially scheduled to start Saturday had the Braves series not featured any rainouts, will now pitch on Tuesday, followed by Marcus Stroman on Wednesday.

➤ While J.D. Davis (left hand sprain, joint inflammation) started swinging a bat again Sunday, Brandon Nimmo (left index finger bone bruise) is still not swinging.

“We want him to be pain-free when he swings, when he makes contact,” Rojas said. “We feel pretty good about the treatment this time and the progression Brandon’s going to take. He should be starting to swing in a few days or so.”

➤ Dellin Betances (right shoulder impingement) has thrown multiple side sessions, but the Mets have not yet talked about a potential rehab assignment for him as he works to strengthen his shoulder.

“He’s in a good physical condition right now, a lot better than he was when the season started,” Rojas said.

➤ Outfielder Mason Williams , who was hitting .373 with a 1.026 OPS in 19 games with Triple-A Syracuse, will join the Mets’ taxi squad for the trip.
