MLB: Jays swat O’s to snap slump

-

Reese McGuire had three doubles during a four-hit performance, leading Hyun Jin Ryu and the Blue Jays past the Orioles, 7-4, in Baltimore.

Toronto, which snapped a five-game skid by erasing a three-run deficit with two outs in the ninth inning Saturday on the way to a 10-7 victory, won in less stressful fashion in the series finale. The Blue Jays claimed their first set since sweeping two games from Miami on June 1-2 while also getting back to .500.

• In Kansas City, Mo., Jarrod Dyson capped a 10-pitch at-bat with a tiebreaking, two-run double in a three-run third inning off Nathan Eovaldi, and the Royals rallied to beat the Red Sox, 7-3, for their first series win in nearly three weeks.

• In Chicago, Alec Mills and three relievers combined on a shutout and the Cubs bounced back from two lopsided losses to beat the Marlins, 2-0, and avoid a sweep.

• In Atlanta, Drew Smyly didn’t allow a hit until the sixth inning, Ronald Acuna Jr. hit his 100th career homer and the Braves earned a split of a day-night doubleheader with a 1-0 victory over the Cardinals.

• In the first game, Adam Wainwright struck out 11 and pitched a three-hitter, sending the Cardinals to a 9-1 victory.

• In San Francisco, Wilmer Flores had four hits, including two of San Francisco’s four home runs, and the Giants routed the Phillies, 11-2.

• The Rays say they plan to promote 20-year-old infielder Wander Franco, considered the best prospect in the minors, from Triple-A Durham on Tuesday, in time to host the Red Sox that night.
