LGA train link OK’d
The FAA on Tuesday issued final approval for a monorail connecting trains from Manhattan to La Guardia Airport, giving the go-ahead for the roughly $2 billion project to pursue federal funding.
The elevated 1.5-mile link would connect the airport to a train stop next to Citi Field that is served by the Long Island Rail Road and the subway’s 7 line.
Officials have sought for years to build a rail link to La Guardia, which opened more than 80 years ago and remains one of the few major US airports without rail service.
Preliminary construction is expected to begin this summer.
