Bezos: Thanks, ’Zons

- Jackie Salo

They delivered — their boss to space.

“I . . . want to thank every Amazon employee and every Amazon customer, because you guys paid for all this,” Jeff Bezos said at a press conference after his Thursday flight to space.

“I’ve been waiting a long time to finally get up there.”

Bezos became the world’s richest man by founding Amazon, which employs nearly 800,000 people worldwide.

But the company also has been blasted for its punishing work schedules to achieve the nextday delivery it frequently promises its Prime customers.

Bezos blasted off in his New Shepard rocket — sending him and three others 66.5 miles above the Earth in a record-setting trip that lasted just over 10 minutes.

Blue Origin’s first commercial flight launched without a hitch from West Texas at 9:12 a.m. (EDT) with the Amazon founder strapped into seat No. 6 next to his brother Mark Bezos, 82-year-old space pioneer Wally Funk and 18-year-old Dutch high-school grad Oliver Daemen. Funk and Daemen became the oldest and youngest to ever soar into space, respectively.

During a livestream of the trip, the excited crew was heard whooping with joy, as Funk marveled, “It’s dark up here!”

Video from inside the cabin showed the foursome playing catch with pingpong balls and snacking on Skittles while floating in zero gravity.
