MLB: Cruz homers in Rays win

Nelson Cruz hit a home run in his Rays debut and Joey Wendle ripped a go-ahead RBI single to ignite a six-run ninth inning Friday night to lift Tampa Bay to a 10-5 victory over the Indians in Cleveland.

In Philadelph­ia, Zack Wheeler returned to his All-Star form for seven innings, Bryce Harper stole three bases, including home, and the Phillies beat the Braves 5-1.

In Milwaukee, Tyrone Taylor hit a grand slam to cap the Brewers’ six-run outburst in the seventh inning of a 7-1 victory over the White Sox.

In Baltimore, Pat Valaika hit two solo homers as the Orioles beat the Nationals 6-1.

In Miami, Joe Musgrove pitched six strong innings, doubled and scored a run, leading the Padres to a 5-2 win over the Marlins.

In Cincinnati, Tyler Stephenson drove in Kyle Farmer with a tiebreakin­g sacrifice fly in the eighth inning, rallying the Reds to a 6-5 win over the Cardinals.

Dodgers pitcher Trevor Bauer appeared in a Los Angeles court to fight the extension of a protective order sought by a woman who says he choked her to the point where she lost consciousn­ess and punched her during two sexual encounters earlier this year.

In Chicago, Javier Baez homered, Robinson Chirinos went deep twice, Zach Davies earned the victory on the mound and the Cubs beat the Diamondbac­ks 8-3.

Nationals infielder Starlin Castro’s administra­tive leave was extended an additional seven days by MLB through July 29.
