Capitol-probe support down
On the day a House select committee held its first hearing on the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, a new poll says support for the investigation among voters is waning.
The Politico-Morning Consult survey, conducted Saturday through Monday and released Tuesday, found that 58 percent of Americans back the probe, down from 66 percent in June. Opposition grew from 24 percent to 29 percent. Among Republicans, 52 percent are anti-probe, up 9 points since June, while support has dropped from 45 to 34 percent.
Backing among independent voters also declined, from 65 percent to 52 percent. Support increased only among Democrats, by 1 point to 83 percent.
The poll about 2,000 voters has a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
